Spider Quinn 17 Tempestuous Origin of Mysterio Part 10

Daria hung up from Jane, who had said that she would be at the Historia an hour before the play started. ‘That’s a good time,’ she thought. Plenty of time to continue gathering information on what had happened in Lawndale since SpiderGirl first appeared. ‘Another two hours before Ted gets here with the next senior,’ she thought as she headed back to her table to clean up.

“That was quick,” Peterson said.

“We’ll catch up properly later. I’m continuing my investigations, and the fourth vigilante will be here, but I will talking to many people, so you can’t find her identity that way.”

“I can’t stick around anyway. I need to write my report on what happened, even if I didn’t see much.”

“Got it.”

Brittany came downstairs after showering and writing in her journal about the rescue.

“Afternoon, honey,” Ashley-Amber said. “You were out in that storm?”

“I was running, when it came up.”

“I see. Anyway, your father said that he might be able to make it to the play tonight!”

“That’s great!” Brittany said enthusiastically.

“Even if not, Brian and I will be there.”

“I hope he behaves himself.”

“I will make sure he doesn’t cause a scene,” Ashley-Amber said as she put some bread on a board.

“I know you will.”

Quinn went down to the hidden area of the basement, and looked at the various maps of Lawndale she had placed on the walls. “I guess I need maps of the area near the Lake too,” she mused. “In case Brit and I need to rescue people from there again.” She wrote that down in a notebook.

After showering, Sandi told her mother she would be at the Historia.

“Wait, Sandi,” her mother said.

“Yes?”

“Sam has been wanting to check out the bookstore there. Take him too.”

Sandi sighed. “Yes, mother.”

Design

Sarah did not expect to find the pillow pit in the castle’s library floor. Although she had to admit that it was in keeping with the aesthetics, unlike the incongruity of the bean bags she’d walked in on in the past.

“Do I want to know what’s going on?” Bishop asked as he entered the room.

Jareth and Rook were ensconced amongst the pillows in a tangle of limbs where they were doodling on each other with the wild abandon of sugared up toddlers given unsupervised access to permanent markers.

Sarah had just come from their studio, hoping to meet Jareth there. She had found it empty, with all of the mobile benches in the painting area having been pushed aside to make room for the three large canvases lying on the floor. While she didn’t have an appreciation for abstract art, it was obvious they were a related series and each painting had a distinct vibe.

“I’m guessing they finished a commission. I saw three paintings drying on the floor. They’re not unpleasant to look at, but they have a real gut punch feel of greed, infidelity and corruption. I don’t know if that’s by design or magic.”

Bishop nodded. “That would be the triptych commission for the oligarch and it sounds like they’ve been tailored to the client nicely.” He chuckled as he took a seat. “I believe they’re intended to be installed as lobby art. The notes from the gallery state that he’s an insufferably rude, little man who tries to make up for his copious insecurities and shortcomings by being shouty and offensive.”

It was never a bright idea to belittle others, but when your target was not human and could break you like a twig, the consequences could prove fatal. Once the transaction was finalised, Sarah was certain that the retaliation was going to be more nuanced than merely spitting in his coffee. As if tanking his business with screaming warning signs wasn’t enough punishment for poor behaviour, there was a magic wielding individual with a grudge who had taken a personal interest in the man.

“Make it more liquid.” Rook had a leg across Jareth’s lap and was dragging his fingers across her calf, spreading a splash of green through the blue.

Jareth huffed. “We’re not working with ink, it won’t work in a heavy medium.” He manipulated the colours running under the skin of her leg.

Sarah’s eyes lit up and she waded into the pit, reaching for the closed unmarked limb and holding Rook’s arm above the soft furnishings. “Can you run rows of dots around her arm, please?” Jareth obliged as Rook watched in patient fascination. “Now if you could just,” she made a twisting motion. Reaching back to Bishop with a wide grin, she pointed at the pattern that looked like a hole disappeared inside of Rook’s forearm. “This is the optical illusion I was trying to figure out. Can I borrow your arms to work out a spiral design?”

Song Saturday - Set It Off

I’m sure I had another video I had in mind for Song Saturday as well as this one, but can I remember it? Nope.

But anyway here is Set It Off - Rotten. (Morning for flashing lights)

So Set It Off finally do another video! After having teases for prior ones that never came I felt Rotten would be the same. But they really ramped up the teasers for this one and I was kinda hyped, especially cause of the one blood.

Unfortunately this came out during the bad heatwave that made me sick so I watched it that first time in a daze. I had been meant to do a rewatch and kinda lost track. So figured song Saturday was a good excuse.

First the song itself. I like it, it’s heavier than their other stuff and i do like that (other than the bad egg voiceover at the end which feels random). I think on of my fav of the lines is about bodies rotting in the basement.

Onto the vid itself. The aforementioned flashing is a bit overdone (and probably didn’t help with the first watch. It’s a mix of the band performing in a space (feels like a garage or basement) with the lights flashing and then other scenes with the guys in hotel rooms.

The first shot of Maxx of him watching a screen has the vibe of him being hypnotised by it but… it doesn’t t go further than that for him whcih gahh it’s so frustrating. Zach’s goes a little further but again it’s too short. Of course Cody, being the singer gets the lions share (which yeah is standard singer gets most attention) but does feel frustrating especially since most of his is singing in front of a mirror until he spits out blood. Which yeah it’s a cool visual but I just wish it went further you know?

(I just wished Maxx did more than just stare at the screen and drum)

****

Other things now.

I kinda spent yesterday zoned out which was annoying. Maybe cause of being out Thursday but it felt my brain switched off a bit which was annoying.

There was a hasbro thing at comic con with figure announcements and I was hoping there’d be one of the two ones I hoped for (Qimir and ND-5) and ahhh! They’re finally releasing a Qimir! And ahhh he’s coming out this year! I’m so hyped I’m gonna get him as soon as preorders go up!

While there’s not an ND-5 figure there is gonna be a book featuring him out next year which is hype. I really need to get back to reading my Star Wars books though.

I have been on Donkey Kong Bananza some more and I did the forest layer, though now I have to go back to the freezer layer. It’s really odd though, of all the animals they could have chosen for the layer which is, as the name suggests, snow themed what animal do they go for? Zebra. That’s such an odd choice.

Also yay my MCC cards are finally on there way, yipee!

I’m hoping to post the fic on ao3 at some point today, if my focus is up to it. At least ao3 isn’t blocked by that stupid online safety nonsense.

But for now I’m gonna watch a random Murder She Wrote on tv before the Seapeekay stream. Though I just heard the other day there gonna be a reboot and Jamie Lee Curtis is gonna be Jessica Fletcher which… I’m not sure about.

As always I’m sure I’m forgetting something which will no doubt come to me later.

Challenge #7

The Ferris Wheel
Journaling: Life in fandom goes through ups and downs. Reminisce about the "wild ride" of your time in fandom or in other online communities.
Creative: Create an image or a photo with the theme "let's go for a ride".

If you've known me a while, you probably know a lot of this, so you can feel free to skip. But for those who haven't, here's a long boring waffle. I was first aware of the existence of fandom round about 2002, when I was in my second year at St Andrews and my then-boyfriend had some friends who were active in the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings fandoms. I wasn't really active at that point, especially once I went no contact with this friendship group (this was an "ex kept the friends" situation) and if anything I avoided it a bit so as not to bump into The Piss Artist Formerly Known as Xander (one of my ex's friends posted her fics under that name and went along with it for ages when people assumed Xander was her real name, then started a relationship with this woman in Australia letting her think she was this Xander dude as well)...yeah, there were reasons I remained no contact with that lot.

Flash forward to a couple of years after my graduation, at which point I started getting into Lost, which is the first fandom I was really active in, and is still my top one. (I'll get to my all time top five later, the other four are more recent.) I found myself wanting to expand on the backstories, especially for those characters where canon barely touched them. If you've known me a while, you probably know my "I Think This Flashback's Mostly Filler" pet peeve where it's always bugged me when too much focus is placed on the same old characters while others are pushed aside (yes, Jack's tattoos, I'm looking at you, although Once Upon a Time did flog Regina vs Snow to death a bit as well. I've had this pet peeve since I was about 13, was reading this series about a group of teens on an island off the coast of Maine, and got seriously annoyed at the amount of focus on this one character who I grew to find really irritating). And I wanted to correct certain canon cockups, such as certain character deaths. So that was how I started out in fandom.

Over time, I was active in more fandoms, Fringe, Doctor Who, Vampire Diaries-verse, Arrowverse, Supernatural, Once Upon a Time, How To Get Away with Murder, Roswell New Mexico, Riverdale-verse, Lucifer, Buffyverse, Harper's Island, Cruel Summer, The Wilds, Hunger Games, Pretty Little Liars, Teen Wolf, iZombie, Game of Thrones-verse. At this point in time, my ultimate top five are Lost, Dark, From, Yellowjackets and School Spirits (the last four being shows I got into in the last couple of years, but the ones I'm most active in right now.)

I've had my peaks and my troughs - 2013 is what I refer to as the zombie year after having basically gone through it on autopilot (bit of context for anyone who doesn't know, since Dad wasn't in my life as much after about the early 1990s, my grandad effectively took over as my father figure, and that was the year he died after a short illness), while 2019 was the year I briefly lost confidence after getting trolled. I now know this troll was someone calling themself 0 who was trolling lots of people in the Arrowverse fandom at the time, asking for very specific requests and then leaving repeated rude comments and "corrections" for anyone who didn't write them. (Corrections in inverted commas because for me, what 0 was trying to correct weren't mistakes - a character changing her name in an alternate timeline that was going to be fully explained in a later chapter, a character's reaction to something that was written and posted before that character found out about it in canon so I didn't have that to work with, but the troll was reading after it aired, did have that context, didn't spot that date and decided I was wrong - but if I was being more generous to 0 than I really felt, I could see how they wrongly assumed they were mistakes. Apart from the other one which was just a difference of opinion rather than anything being wrong in the first place.) And 2020 is pretty self explanatory.
